I use a dell inspiron 6400. The wireless card works in my windows environment but not in the ubuntu environment. I have all the drivers installed but ubuntu still doesn't recognize it. I get a message' Driver installed but not in use'. I use ubuntu 9.10..pls help

You need to download the Microsoft Windows version of the driver for your wireless adapter. Most likely this will be a compressed file. You will want to extract the files by double-clicking on the package or by right-clicking and choosing "extract here".

Finding drivers: in my case, I had a Dell Latitude D520. I went to support.dell.com, browsed to my model, and downloaded the most recent driver package from my wireless adapter (Dell WLAN 1390). If you have an hp, you could go to support.hp.com, and do the same thing, etc.
